This trip was specifically to take supplies
to San Lorenzo Hospital, San Lorenzo, Honduras, a small pueblo
on the Pacific Coast. We
purchased a wonderful 71 passenger yellow school bus (shown
here with master mechanic Mark Ross and Ben Johnson, who has
stenciled all of our buses). from
George Logan of New England Transport of Tygsboro, MA, and
loaded it up with 126 big boxes of medical supplies, 3 wheel
chairs, 23 walkers, and 64 pairs of crutches.
Most
of the 126 boxes were filled with sheets, towels, blankets
and other hospital supplies from Martha's Vineyard Hospital,
who generously donated many other materials for San Lorenzo.
Here is the bus being unloaded by our new representatives
in Honduras, Manuel and Oscar Flores of Tegucigalpa.

The supplies in the San Lorenzo Hospital
Lobby
San Lorenzo Hospital's equipment was destroyed
in Hurricane Mitch, when mud and water buried the facility.
The one story building is beautiful, and there is a team of
dedicated doctors and nurses there to take care of thousands
of very poor patients. It is our mission to find new equipment
to replace the old, damaged units. Note the condition of the
baby bassinets and the examining tables.
The Siuna Foundation now has four facilities
it is affiliated with: the maternity clinic in Siuna, Nicaraga,
the Emergency room clinic and school in Guadelupe la Zora, El
Salvador, and now the Hospital San Lorenzo. Every donation will
have a place to go. It is the decision of the foundation to
work with these four facilities to maximize their potential
before going on to build new clinics. |
