May Trip 2003,
As of May 2003, we will have made five
trips by bus to Central America.
Two of our buses were
subsequently donated to the Pronino Foundation in El Progresso,
Honduras to George Mealer, also a Rotarian. We have investigated
shipping as an alternative, but have chosen to remain with
driving as a means of getting supplies to Central America.
In the near future we will buy a home there, and a truck,
so visitors will have a place to stay, and we will use the
truck to come pick up supplies from the ports. At that point,
shipping will make sense. We will have
space for teams that come frequently, such as VOSH, to store
equipment.
We also are planning to limit the supplies we bring down
and focus instead on bringing education to the people which
will empower them to make better life choices. Our next
project is a school of nursing. The site, we hope, will
be on the URACCAN campus in Siuna, where the students can
work with our maternity clinic and the small rural hospital
there. The school will put an emphasis on public health
education and we plan to teach the equivalent of an EMT
course. We are planning a new text book that we hope will
be used by other NGO's. We will keep you informed on our
progress.
Here are some photos of our trips in
2002 and 2003.

| Omar Espinoza, our rep for
Nicaragua has traveled to Boston twice to help drive
the supplies down. Without him, these trips would not
have been possible. His help and support was immeasurable.

This is what the approach
to Guadelupe in El Salvador looks like. Access is by boat,
Walking on this "pier" to get to shore is an adventure.
