Our ongoing projects include:
1. Water projects to provide clean water for the clinics
2. Medical teams who would like to work in these clinics. For
details email us.
3. Getting help for children born with birth defects
4. Bringing down medical students to work in our clinics. We
would like to bring down medical students, no more than 10 at
a time, for a tuition, for a 10 day to 2 week period. Email
us for details.
5. Collecting school supplies and money to buy books for the
schools we
have built in Siuna.
6. Building more schools for children that currently learn in
dilapidated
shacks.
7. Writing a text book for elementary schools that teach basic
first aid
and basic public health.
We used to collect crutches and canes and wheel
chairs, etc., but after
driving down 5 big school bus loads of supplies, we have found
that most of
the supplies disappear after reaching the hospitals or clinics.
To drive a
bus load of supplies from Boston to Central America cost about
$12,000 a
trip, including the bus and fuel. Driving down was a grand
adventure, but
not cost effective.
I will have residency in Nicaragua by July 2004,
and will explore shipping
medical supplies at that time. To ship will cost about half
of what it
costs to drive.
The biggest need we have is for money, because
we can buy some of the heavy things close to or in Central
America. One big example is cases of Clorox to help sterilize
water. Another example are school books for children. There
are no administrative costs to this foundation. Every penny
goes for supplies and to get the supplies down to the clinics.
As always, the best way to reach us is
